The Facts Are In and We’ve Gotta Move and Eat Better if We Want to Live Longer!

It’s been drummed into my head that to be healthy I need to take at least 10,00 steps a day. Eating healthy foods that includes greens and staying away from junk food are also often heard suggestions. I admit that learning a recent study about just how many steps a day is actually beneficial isn’t 10,000. I found a smile creep across my face.   I’m happy to report the top three tips of the week include the recent findings that 4,400 steps are the new 10,000, ultraprocessed foods are killing us and with summer swiftly approaching, here’s 3 plant-based salad dressing recipes for the summer of 2019.

This Week’s Top Three Tips

When switching to the plant-based lifestyle in June of 2013, I mourned the loss of my favorite salad dressings.  All of my fav’s had the likes of dairy and oil in them and I’ve learned first hand that the benefits of eating whole foods that are plant-based do not include dairy and oil (for my heart health). Truthfully I was a bit bummed. Especially since it was summer and I really enjoy salads during the warm weather.

3 Plant-Based Salad Dressing Recipes for the Summer of 2019

Not to be stopped in my tracks I set out to find some delicious plant-based salad dressings. I’ve found two that have become my “go to” dressings especially in the summer months. A delicious strawberry vinaigrette and Dreena Burton’s Magical Oil-Free Vegan Salad Dressing is as tasty as its name suggests.  Yet my favorite summer salad dressing is hands down an awesome ranch dressing created by my very own husband. Yes, I’m a bit biased, but try it for yourself and you too will see why I call it awesome! Full disclosure, this recipe isn’t oil free as it uses Veganese (a vegan mayonnaise) which has oil in it.  We use this ranch dressing on salads and for dipping veggies and find that every type and age of eater loves it.
